Cautionary Tale

This told to me by a wedding photographer  –  A Bride to be set out to arrange her own flowers from Bout to bouquet. She started working on them 2 days before her wedding.  She didn’t know that while a few flowers are not a problem, sometimes MANY of the same type can cause problems. She ended up in the E.R. with a horrible body swelling, throat closing allergy she never knew she had from one type of flower! What a close call in so many ways!  Care should be taken by any bride if they have allergies in general. Call your florist & let her worry over your flowers! A bride needs to stay well & healthy for her big day!!

Cakes ~ Venues ~ Food Tips

If you don’t want cake, have a FLOWER CAKE! Then have real cupcakes, mini cheesecakes or mini pies for the guests! Many places like Libraries, Zoos, Gardens, Art Galleries can be great places that show what your interests are & can cost less than other venues. Buffet style catering is less costly than sit down style but if you have a place that you can provide the food, make it a Potluck where everyone brings a dish! This gives your friends & family a real sense of being a part of your special day!

DIY???

If you are in a serious budget crunch & have to do your own flowers – talk to me 1st. Often scaling back still gets you professionally finished wedding bouquets, other times the best way is DIY. I can get your flowers & you can put them together. You pay for my time of ordering & picking them up etc…. My only concern is the stress level you may encounter for doing it yourself can often be too much for you, the bride. You should think of others ways to cut costs so you can afford to pay for the worker bee (ME!) to make this a happy – less stressed – DAY for you!! Some ways are doing away with the traditional catered meal. Many are switching to Potluck type where the invited guests bring a dish to share. This usually only works when the reception is somewhere like a private home, school, uncatered building rentals, etc… Maybe your friends don’t mind having only coffee, punch, cake & some treats on the tables. They know & love you & know if you are in a money crunch. The food usually isn’t in all your wedding pictures BUT the FLOWERS usually are!! They need to look great!

Try this site for some ideas then send a pic to me so we can see what you have in mind for your wedding! Go by Category – then flowers -then even color!

Old Lore ~

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride’s father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

Yummy soup!

Thai soup with a cajun twist ! Andouille sausage is good in just about everything!

Andouille, Chicken & Shrimp Gumbo

Yummy Gumbo!

Andouille, Chicken & Shrimp Gumbo in a nice dark Roux! Lordy, it makes my mouth water just looking at the picture! The taste took me right back to my home & grandma’s house! Yum!! I like a little File’ powder (ground sassafras leaves) on mine but I can eat it either way.

My Blog

This will be about my Cajun cooking results & all other brain activity!

I was a teen when I moved to Oregon & so was too young to learn many of the recipes I should know how to cook by heart!

I would love feedback as I get regular followers here or on my facebook.
